Lowton and Golborne Basketball Tournament

Our year 6/5 basketball team competed against the other Lowton and Golborne schools. The tournament format was a league system and Golborne won every game they played to finish top. The team came fifth in the Wigan finalists’ tournament.

In June 2015, our Hi-5 team played their first match at home. They played against Gilded Hollins.

The team looked amazing in their brand new kits, which were kindly sponsored by Graham Bond of Power Employment.

Our team played tremendously well on our newly marked out court.

Well done to the team for their hard work, resilience and sportsmanship!

Quicksticks (Hockey) Competition

After winning the Wigan West Quicksticks (Hockey) Competition, the top three teams plus the top three teams from the Wigan East Competition played in the Wigan Finals. Our team produced another fantastic display, winning all their games except for one draw. They finished official Wigan Champions and are still undefeated as a team! The team will now be entered into the Greater Manchester finals which took place in March 2015.

Leigh Centurions Wigan Tournament

Our tag rugby team competed in the Leigh Centurions Wigan Tag Rugby Tournament. The team gave another fantastic effort. After winning their group with a record of six wins and one draw, they were very unlucky to be beaten by a ‘Golden Try’ in extra time of the semi-final, after originally drawing the game in full time.

 Year 6 Tag Rugby

The team had a fantastic performance in the Lowton and Golborne Tag Rugby Tournament. After finishing top of their group, they progressed through to the knockout stages. They won every game they played throughout the days and finished champions.

Children from Year 2 to Year 6 had a fantastic opportunity to visit Astley Golf driving range in June 2015. During their visit they were taught different golfing techniques using professional equipment.

The children were very enthusiastic to learn new skills and they thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Here’s what they had to say about the day:

“Visiting the golf range was a really good experience – I got to use professional equipment and we were shown how to use the clubs properly. It was good that different year groups worked in teams.”
…Tyrese Robinson, Year 6

“I really enjoyed my time at the golf range. I learned how to hit the ball really far. It was fun!”
… Lee Burke, Year 2
